NAPE Urges Indigenous Firms to Learn from Shell's Bonga Success

The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) has called on indigenous oil and gas companies in the upstream sector to closely study the operational success of Shell in the Bonga Deepwater asset. This advisory was given by NAPE President, Mrs Olajumoke Ajayi, during the association’s July 2026 Technical/Business Meeting held in Lagos, themed “Shell Nigeria’s Bonga Field: From Discovery to Over One Billion Barrels of Production – Key Technical Insights, Milestones, and the Path Forward.” The keynote address was delivered by the Asset Operation and Development Lead at Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO).

Ajayi highlighted that Shell's Bonga Field serves as a blueprint for technical excellence and exploration in offshore Nigeria, noting that deepwater fields contribute significantly to national production. Dr.

Anthony Ofoma, NAPE President-Elect, praised Shell for its pioneering role in Nigeria's deepwater operations and its consistent support for NAPE's activities.
