NASENI Celebrates Three Years of Reforms Under Halilu

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) celebrated three years of institutional reforms and technology commercialization under the leadership of Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Khalil Suleiman Halilu on September 4, 2026. Since Halilu's appointment in September 2023, NASENI has aimed to connect Nigeria's research and innovation capabilities with industrial production.

Halilu emphasized that Nigeria possesses technical talent but struggles to convert ideas into commercially viable products. The agency has implemented reforms including the establishment of Project Management and Implementation Management Offices, digitization of processes, and the introduction of an Enterprise Resource Planning system.

NASENI has launched initiatives like InnovateNaija and the NASENI Innovation Hub, awarding N229 million to 14 researchers in 2025 for projects in various sectors. Major projects include a Solar Industrial Park in Nasarawa State and an electric vehicle assembly facility in Abuja.

Looking ahead, NASENI plans to focus on scaling production and enhancing local content.
