Nigerian National Grid Suffers Second Collapse in Four Days, Disrupting Electricity Supply

The Nigerian national grid suffered its second collapse in four days, impacting electricity distribution to several regions. The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) revealed that the collapse was caused by the simultaneous tripping of multiple 330kV transmission lines and disconnection of generator units, resulting in a system-wide shutdown.

The outage affected areas such as Abuja, Osogbo, Benin, Onitsha, Sakete, Jebba, Kainji, Shiroro, and parts of Lagos. Restoration efforts commenced promptly, with electricity supply successfully restored in some areas.

Investigations into the root causes of the disturbance are ongoing, with a focus on ensuring the full restoration and stabilization of the grid as a top operational priority.
