Tinubu Advocates Police-Citizen Collaboration for Safety

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu addressed the importance of collaboration between police and citizens for national safety during the 2026 National Police Day held in Abuja. He stressed that achieving safety cannot rely solely on law enforcement and highlighted the necessity for citizens, community leaders, traditional institutions, religious leaders, civil society, and the private sector to work closely with police and security agencies.

Tinubu warned that mistrust between citizens and law enforcement exacerbates insecurity, advocating for a partnership where the police are seen as allies in maintaining peace. He charged the Nigerian Police Force to sustain reform efforts and uphold professional service standards, urging officers to conduct themselves with integrity and discipline.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu echoed these sentiments, emphasizing accountability and the need for the police to rise above indiscipline and misconduct. The address coincided with the annual celebration of National Police Day, which honors the sacrifices of police officers, including those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
