Tinubu Calls for Citizen-Police Collaboration on Security

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu addressed the growing mistrust between citizens and law enforcement, warning that it exacerbates insecurity in Nigeria. Speaking at the 2026 National Police Day event held at Eagle Square in Abuja, Tinubu urged Nigerians to collaborate closely with police and security agencies.

He highlighted that national security cannot be achieved by law enforcement alone and called for support from community leaders, traditional institutions, civil society, and the private sector. Tinubu stressed that insecurity thrives on mutual suspicion and encouraged the police to remain people-oriented, respectful, and responsive.

He also charged the leadership of the Nigerian Police Force to sustain ongoing reforms, uphold professional integrity, and maintain discipline. Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu warned officers against indiscipline and misconduct, declaring that accountability will be enforced at all ranks without favoritism.

He pledged to improve officer welfare, training, and equipment while ensuring that police conduct inspires public confidence.
