Tinubu Mourns Rear Admiral Musa Katagum's Passing

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu conveyed profound sorrow regarding the death of Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, the Chief Naval Operations of the Nigerian Navy, who passed away on February 19, 2026, after a prolonged illness. In a statement issued on Friday by his special adviser on strategic communication, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the loss as a significant blow to both the military and the nation.

He praised Katagum's vast experience and invaluable contributions to the Nigerian Navy and the armed forces throughout his distinguished career, which included serving in various strategic capacities, such as Director of the Presidential Communication Command Control Centre (PC4) and Chief of Intelligence of the Nigerian Navy. Appointed as Chief Naval Operations in November of the previous year, Katagum was recognized for his leadership, dedication, and mentorship of junior officers, significantly strengthening Nigeria's maritime security architecture.

Tinubu prayed for the eternal rest of Katagum's soul and offered comfort to his family, colleagues, and comrades during this mourning period.
