Navy Arrests Four Suspected Oil Thieves in Ondo

On September 3, 2026, the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda, led by Captain Andy Alemongwa, arrested four suspects involved in illegal crude oil activities during an anti-crude oil theft patrol. The operation, based on credible intelligence, began around 8 PM and concluded in the early hours of September 4 at Obe-Akingboye in Ilaje LGA.

The principal suspect attempted to flee but was intercepted along with his accomplices. The Navy recovered 100 jerry cans of 30 litres each, a 1,000-litre storage tank with suspected illegally refined petroleum products, and various siphoning tools.

Additionally, a boat operator was intercepted carrying 29 jerry cans of 50 litres and nine jerry cans of 30 litres of suspected Premium Motor Spirit. None of the suspects could provide documentation for the petroleum products.

The suspects and the recovered items were taken to FOB Igbokoda and subsequently handed over to the NSCDC for investigation and potential prosecution, demonstrating the Navy's commitment to combating maritime crimes under Vice Admiral Idi Abbas's leadership.
