Nigerian Navy Arrests Personnel After Clash in Bayelsa

The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the arrest of its personnel following a clash that occurred during a presidential visit by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Bayelsa State. The incident, which was captured in a 53-second video that went viral, showed uniformed officers engaged in a heated confrontation that escalated into a physical fight.

The altercation reportedly began when a naval police driver confronted a soldier, leading to a verbal exchange. Subsequently, a soldier armed with a rifle approached and struck the naval police driver, triggering a wider scuffle among personnel present.

The exact cause of the clash has yet to be determined. Captain Abi Folorunso, the Director of Naval Information, confirmed that the involved personnel have been taken into custody and are undergoing disciplinary procedures in accordance with military regulations.

The Navy assured that the matter is being handled in line with established military rules, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
