Navy Discovers Illegal Refining Sites, Recovers 99,000 Litres

On August 31, 2026, the Nigerian Navy conducted operations that led to the discovery of three suspected illegal refining sites and six reservoirs in Rivers and Delta States. The operations were executed by the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS SOROH, and NNS DELTA, following credible intelligence regarding illegal petroleum activities.

Approximately 99,000 litres of products, believed to be stolen crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), were recovered. Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, stated that various equipment and facilities used for illegal refining were also discovered, including a large refining oven and storage facilities.

The Navy emphasized that these findings significantly impacted illegal petroleum activities by disrupting the infrastructure supporting crude oil theft and illegal refining. The recovered products and facilities were managed according to established procedures, and the Navy reiterated its commitment to continuing operations against criminal networks involved in these activities.
