Nigerian Breweries Partners for rPET Facility in Ogun

Nigerian Breweries has announced a strategic partnership with Indorama Ventures and Genesis Energy Group to establish a food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) production facility in Ogun State. This initiative aims to bolster Nigeria's recycling industry and enhance sustainable packaging practices.

The partnership will involve the development of a special purpose vehicle, with Nigerian Breweries holding a 29 percent minor stake. Indorama Ventures will lead the funding and operational development of the facility, which will supply food-grade rPET for Nigerian Breweries' beverage packaging.

This move aligns with Nigeria's plastic waste management policies and reflects a growing regulatory push towards circular economy practices. Analysts, including Chinw Okoli and Bismarck Rewan, emphasize the importance of this investment in recycling infrastructure, noting that it will reduce dependence on imported recycled materials and improve the local waste management ecosystem.

Nigerian Breweries recently reported a pretax profit of N161 billion for the 2025 financial year, a significant recovery from a previous loss.
