Indorama, Nigerian Breweries, Genesis Energy Launch rPET Facility

Indorama Ventures, Nigerian Breweries PLC, and Genesis Energy Solutions have entered a strategic partnership to develop Africa's largest state-of-the-art recycling facility for rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate) in Lagos, Nigeria. This facility is planned to have a production capacity of 45,000 tons of food-grade rPET resin annually, with operations expected to commence in the first half of 2027.

The collaboration aims to strengthen the circular economy infrastructure and enhance the sustainability of the packaging value chain in the region. The partnership is designed to meet the rising demand for recycled content, reduce plastic waste, and create local value through improved collection systems and job creation.

Yash Lohia, Executive President and Chairman of the ESG Council at Indorama Ventures, emphasized the significance of this partnership in establishing a commercial rPET operation that aligns with Nigeria's national policies on plastic waste management introduced in 2020. Akinwol Omoboriowo, CEO of Genesis Energy, highlighted the commitment to deploying climate-resilient investments leveraging clean energy solutions.
