NBA Demands Justice for Delta Police Killing of Ogidi

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has condemned the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi by police officers in Delta State, demanding the prosecution of those involved. The incident, which occurred during an operation in Effurun on April 26, 2026, was documented in a viral video that showed Ogidi being shot after being arrested for allegedly attempting to transport a parcel containing firearms.

The NBA, represented by its president Mazi Afam Osigwe, described the act as a violation of constitutional rights and a threat to public confidence in law enforcement. The association emphasized that no officer is above the law and called for accountability, warning that failure to address such conduct could deepen a culture of impunity.

The Delta State Police Command has initiated internal disciplinary proceedings and confirmed the arrest of ASP Nuhu Usman, who reportedly discharged his weapon in violation of operational guidelines. The NBA urged for a thorough investigation and swift prosecution to restore public trust.
