PSC Condemns Extrajudicial Killing of Mene Ogidi

The Police Service Commission (PSC) condemned the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi, who was shot dead by a police officer attached to the Effurun Area Command in Delta State on April 26, 2026. Ogidi was reportedly arrested and handcuffed while allegedly transporting a firearm when he was shot despite pleading for his life.

The PSC, led by Torti Njoku Kalu, emphasized that this act violates Nigerian law, international humanitarian standards, and various legal frameworks, including the Nigerian Constitution and the Anti-Torture Act of 2017. The commission commended the Delta State Police Command for initiating disciplinary actions against the officer involved, which may include suspension and interdiction pending a thorough investigation.

The PSC extended its condolences to Ogidi's bereaved family and urged the public to remain calm as justice is pursued.
