NBA Condemns Sowore's Disruption at Abuja Court Session

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) condemned the conduct of Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate and human rights activist, during a session at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday. Reports indicate that Sowore disrupted courtroom decorum when he clashed with senior advocates of Nigeria while attempting to address journalists inside the courtroom.

A video circulating online shows a lawyer confronting Sowore, insisting that the courtroom was not an appropriate venue for a press briefing. Sowore disagreed, claiming he was being intimidated.

The NBA, in a statement signed by its president Afam Osigwe, expressed grave concern over the incident, stating that Sowore's actions undermined the dignity of the court and constituted a serious affront to the rule of law. The NBA stressed that while every Nigerian has the right to attend court proceedings, this does not extend to using the courtroom as a platform for press conferences, which could intimidate legal practitioners and disrupt proceedings.
