Fubara Urges Lawyers to Uphold Rule of Law at NBA 2026

At the opening of the 2026 Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara charged legal practitioners to steadfastly defend the rule of law, constitutional democracy, and fundamental human rights. Themed “Beyond Limits,” the conference gathered judges, lawyers, and legal practitioners nationwide.

Fubara described the legal system as foundational to the relationship between government and citizens, asserting that law's ultimate purpose is to protect citizens' security and wellbeing. He warned that neglecting the rule of law could lead to social disorder and emphasized that courts should serve as refuges for justice seekers.

Fubara urged judges to consider the broader implications of their rulings and to act as guardians of democracy. He also highlighted his administration's efforts in judicial development, including appointing more judges and establishing additional courts in collaboration with Rivers State Chief Judge Justice Simeon Amadi.
