NBA-SBL to Evaluate Nigeria's Economic Reforms at Conference

The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) is set to host its 20th Annual Conference from June 8 to June 10, 2026, at the Continent Hotel in Abuja. The conference will focus on evaluating the effects of Nigeria's ongoing economic reforms rather than merely celebrating their introduction.

Chairperson Ozofu Latund Ogiemudia stated that the theme will explore whether recent policy changes deliver tangible benefits to businesses and citizens. Nigeria has implemented significant reforms in recent years, including the Petroleum Industry Act, removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange unification, tax reforms, digital payment regulations, and liberalization of the mining sector.

Ogiemudia emphasized the need to address key issues regarding whether these reforms strengthen institutions, improve investor confidence, and create economic opportunities. The conference will bring together regulators, policymakers, legal practitioners, business leaders, and international stakeholders to assess the practical economic and social impacts of government policies and identify areas requiring improvement.
