NBA Urges Courts for Clear Orders to Avoid Confusion

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), under the presidency of Mr. Afam Osigwe, has called on courts to avoid using complex phrases and instead issue clear, unambiguous orders to prevent confusion and misinterpretation.

Osigwe expressed his concerns during a televised interview, highlighting the growing ambiguity in judicial pronouncements, especially in politically sensitive cases. He emphasized that vague court orders can lead to multiple interpretations, allowing parties to claim victory based on misinterpretations.

This statement comes in the context of a leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where the court directed parties to maintain the status quo ante bellum. The ADC, particularly the faction led by David Mark, has rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) decision regarding their leadership structure, leading to protests at INEC headquarters in Abuja.

Osigwe's remarks reflect the need for clarity in legal rulings to avoid further disputes and confusion in Nigeria's judicial landscape.
