NBA to FG: Release Osun LG funds

The NBA has demanded the release of funds allocated to local governments in Osun State, in a letter addressed to the Attorney General of the Federation, Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi. The NBA, represented by President Afam Osigwe SAN and Secretary General Mobolaji Ojibara, threatened legal action over the continued withholding of funds, which they deemed unconstitutional, unlawful, and a dangerous affront to the rule of law.

The NBA referenced a Court of Appeal ruling that nullified a Federal High Court judgment that dissolved elected local governments in Osun State. Following the recent local government elections in the state, where PDP candidates defeated APC aspirants, the federal government allegedly withheld statutory allocations meant for the councils, in violation of the constitution.

The NBA warned that such actions set a dangerous precedent and weaken public confidence in democratic institutions. The Attorney General of the Federation, Kamarudeen Ogundele, stated that the government would respond appropriately to the matter once a suit is.
