NBF Honors Hogan Bassey During National Boxing Week

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) paid tribute to late boxing legend Hogan Bassey by inaugurating the National Boxing Week in Lagos. The event, which runs until Friday, March 6, includes open trials to select boxers for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The ceremony took place at Bassey’s gravesite at the National Stadium in Surulere, led by NBF Vice President Omonlei Imadu. Notable attendees included Major General Ola Oyelad and NBF General Secretary Vivian Azimen.

The trials will feature boxers from various weight categories, with a strict merit-based selection process to ensure that every boxer earns the right to represent Nigeria. NBF President Wale Edun announced the unveiling of new digital infrastructure, including an automated licensing system and a rebranded website, aimed at enhancing Nigeria's boxing competitiveness on a global scale.
