NBF Announces National Boxing Week and Trials for 2026

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has unveiled its program for the first National Boxing Week and Commonwealth Games Trials, scheduled to take place from March 1 to 6, 2026, at the Brai Ayonot Boxing Complex in the National Stadium, Lagos. This week-long event will feature an open trial to select pugilists who will represent Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The trials are open to affiliated clubs, state associations, and institutions, allowing Nigerian boxers worldwide to participate. The competition will include ten weight categories for men (55kg, 65kg, 70kg, 80kg, 90kg) and women (51kg, 57kg, 65kg, 70kg, 70kg).

Hon. Omonlei Imadu, Vice President of the NBF, emphasized the importance of honoring past legends like Hogan "Kid" Bassey while building a future for the sport. The trials will ensure a transparent and merit-based selection process, moving away from traditional methods.

Additionally, the NBF plans to enhance its digital infrastructure to improve governance and athlete management.
