NBF President Wale Edun Praises Boxers at Trials

Wale Edun, the President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) and former Minister of Finance, commended the courage and sportsmanship displayed by the 128 boxers who participated in the Commonwealth Games trials held over four days at the National Stadium in Lagos. The trials featured 121 men and 27 women, culminating in 10 champions across various weight categories, including Patricia Mbata and Kenneth Anigboro, who won in the women's 70kg and men's 90kg divisions, respectively.

Edun emphasized the exemplary conduct of the athletes and expressed optimism that Nigeria would surpass its four-medal haul from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The NBF announced a final list of 20 boxers, including winners and finalists from recent competitions, who will join 20 others in the final phase of trials.

This group will ultimately select 10 boxers to represent Nigeria at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
