Nigeria Boxing Federation Targets Six Golds in Glasgow 2026

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has set an ambitious target of winning six gold medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled from July 24 to August 1 in Glasgow. Vice President Omonlei Imadu announced this goal during a five-day open trial at the Brai Ayonot Boxing Complex in the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The trials featured 128 boxers, from which 40 were selected to enter the final camp phase, comprising 20 finalists (10 male and 10 female) and 20 additional boxers who reached the semi-finals. Notable finalists include Patricia Mbata, a gold medallist at the African Games, and Kenneth Anigboro, who topped the men's 90kg class.

The NBF aims to ensure that the selected boxers are in perfect shape for the competition. The federation expressed determination to improve on its previous performance at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where Nigeria secured four medals, including one silver and three bronze.
