Nigeria Boxing Federation Selects Boxers for 2026 Trials

The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has unveiled a list of 20 pugilists, consisting of 10 males and 10 females, who will participate in the final phase of trials for the 2026 Commonwealth Games. This announcement follows the conclusion of the national boxing week trials held in Lagos, which featured 128 boxers competing across ten weight categories.

Notable female boxers include Patricia Mbata, a gold medalist at the African Games, and several others in various weight classes. In the men's division, Kenneth Anigboro secured the top spot in the 90kg class.

The trials are part of a rigorous selection process aimed at identifying the best athletes to represent Nigeria in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 24 to August 1, 2026. Vice President of the NBF, Omonlei Imadu, praised the athletes' resilience and emphasized the goal of winning medals, including six golds.

The NBF aims to improve upon Nigeria's previous performance at the 2022 Birmingham Games, where the country secured four medals.
