NCC Urges Collaboration to Reduce Fibre Cuts in Nigeria

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has attributed the high rate of fibre cuts during road construction to inadequate collaboration among key stakeholders, particularly with the Ministry of Works. Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the NCC, stated at a stakeholders’ workshop in Abuja that over 5,000 fibre cut incidents were reported in the first six months of the year due to insufficient coordination before construction activities began.

Maida stressed that the focus should not be on assigning blame but rather on fostering collaboration to mitigate these issues. Air Vice Marshall Effion Ewa, Director of Critical National Standards and Infrastructure Protection at the Office of the National Security Adviser, echoed the importance of collective actions among stakeholders to secure Nigeria's digital future.

The workshop was themed "Secure today: Connect Tomorrow," highlighting the urgency of addressing the challenges posed by fibre cuts.
