African Telecom Regulators Urged to Collaborate Effectively

Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), called for enhanced collaboration among Africa's telecommunications regulators during a regulatory roundtable held on Tuesday in Abuja. The event was part of the ongoing 7th Ordinary Session of the Conference of the Preparatory Committee (CPC).

Maida noted that while regulatory challenges vary across nations due to distinct legal frameworks and market sizes, many issues are strikingly similar. He stressed the importance of sharing experiences and establishing a systematic approach to benefit from collective insights.

Maida highlighted the increasing complexity of the telecommunications market, driven by advancements in broadband, satellite services, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. He urged regulators to proactively address these challenges with reliable intelligence rather than merely responding to issues as they arise.

Rimini Makama, Executive Commissioner at NCC, also emphasized the need for data-driven decision-making to enhance service quality and consumer protection in the digital market.
