NCC and MultiChoice Collaborate for Creative Industry Growth

On Friday, Dr. John Asein, the Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), called for stronger collaboration with MultiChoice Nigeria Ltd to promote sustainable growth in Nigeria's creative industry.

This call was made during a courtesy visit by Mr. Kemi Omotosho, the Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria Ltd, to the NCC headquarters in Abuja, where Asein congratulated Omotosho on his recent appointment.

Asein expressed confidence in MultiChoice's ability to strengthen Nigeria's evolving media and entertainment landscape and emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation to address critical growth issues in the creative economy. He acknowledged MultiChoice's contributions to broadcasting infrastructure and local content promotion, which enhance the global visibility of Nigerian creative works.

Asein also stressed that the development of the creative sector relies on a balanced copyright system that protects creators and safeguards investors. He raised concerns about conflicts in judicial interpretations regarding subscription broadcast services and called for clearer licensing terms and regulatory guidance to stabilize the market, highlighting the growing threat of digital piracy.
