NCCE Launches New Curriculum to Enhance Teacher Education
The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has unveiled a new curriculum and a five-year strategic plan aimed at enhancing teacher education and enabling colleges of education to award degrees alongside the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE). Dr Angela Ajala, the Executive Secretary of NCCE, announced these reforms during a national retreat and workshop in Abuja.
The new curriculum, developed through consultations with various stakeholders, emphasizes digital competencies, inclusive education, entrepreneurship, and innovative teaching methods. Ajala stressed the importance of adequately trained lecturers, modern facilities, effective quality assurance, and appropriate funding for the curriculum to achieve its goals.
Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, the Minister of State for Education, highlighted that the success of the policy would depend on maintaining academic standards rather than merely increasing the number of colleges offering degree programs. She called for collaboration among educational bodies to ensure effective implementation of the new curriculum and strategic plan.
