NCCE's Angela Ajala Targets 200,000 Skilled Teachers Annually

Angela Ajala, the Executive Secretary of the NCCE, announced a target of 200,000 skilled teachers annually during a workshop for provosts of colleges of education in Gombe. The NCCE is implementing a new teacher education framework that allows students to obtain multiple qualifications, including the National Certificate in Education (NCE), a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree, and a skills certificate.

This initiative aims to strengthen teachers' economic resilience and equip them with entrepreneurial skills beyond classroom teaching. The dual mandate officially commenced in September 2026, with plans to address the unique challenges of various geopolitical zones.

Ajala introduced the Teach Nigeria Forward campaign to support the recruitment of 200,000 teachers annually, aiming for one million skilled and digitally certified teachers over five years. She expressed confidence in teachers adapting to the new system, which is designed to enhance employability and self-reliance among graduates.

The next step includes train-the-trainers workshops across colleges of education.
