NCDC Deploys Dialysis Machines for Lassa Fever Care

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has deployed dialysis machines to five states—Edo, Kaduna, Lagos, Nasarawa, and Plateau—to enhance the management of severe Lassa fever cases. This announcement was made by the Director General of NCDC, Dr.

Jide Idri, during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday. The distribution of the dialysis equipment is part of a broader effort to improve case management outcomes, particularly for patients who develop kidney-related complications due to Lassa fever.

Dr. Idri highlighted that the machines were procured with corporate support and donor collaboration, and their distribution was based on the burden of treatment needs.

He also noted that the response to the outbreak remains a shared responsibility among federal and state authorities, emphasizing the need to strengthen health systems at the state level. The NCDC continues to monitor performance indicators and has acknowledged resource constraints within the health sector while stressing ongoing response activities.
