Nigeria Reports 1,119 Lassa Fever Cases in 2025, NCDC Highlights Key Findings

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) disclosed that 1,119 confirmed cases of Lassa fever were recorded in 2025, with 206 deaths. Young adults aged 21-30 bore the highest burden, reflecting gender differences in exposure and health-seeking behavior.

Bauchi, Ondo, Taraba, Edo, and Kogi states reported the most cases, with Ondo alone contributing 35% of the national total. The NCDC emphasized the need for early diagnosis, treatment, and community engagement to control the outbreak.
