NCPWD and FMITI Collaborate to Empower Persons with Disabilities

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) are establishing a strategic partnership to empower persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria. This collaboration was discussed during a courtesy visit to Hon. Jumoke Oduwole, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, by the NCPWD team led by Executive Secretary Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan.
The partnership aims to promote inclusive trade, industrialization, and the creative economy, particularly through events like CANEX WKND 2026. Gufwan emphasized that PWDs, who represent 15% of Nigeria's population, should not be excluded from economic activities, as their exclusion could cost Nigeria 5-7% of GDP annually.
The Minister assured support for PWDs in ongoing projects and highlighted the Ministry's commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion.
