NDC Schedules First National Convention for May 2026

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its first national convention will take place on May 9, 2026, in Abuja, the nation's capital, in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This information was disclosed in a statement by the Deputy National Public Secretary of the NDC on Friday.

The party is currently conducting grassroots and mid-level congresses across the country, with ward poll unit congresses scheduled for May 1-2, local government state congresses on May 4, and zonal congresses expected to occur on May 6. The convention aims to ensure an orderly emergence of party structures at the grassroots level in line with its constitutional operational guidelines.

Abdulsalam, the party's spokesman, emphasized that the convention is a significant milestone for the NDC's institutional development. The event will bring together accredited delegates and officials, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) expected to monitor the proceedings to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The NDC expressed confidence that the ongoing congresses will strengthen its internal democratic processes and enhance political engagement ahead of future electoral activities.
