NDC Appeals to Hanga, Gaya Against APC Defection

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has made an appeal to Kano Central Senator Rufai Sani Hanga and former governor Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya to reconsider their alleged planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This appeal follows a visit by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and the two politicians to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

NDC Chairman Hussaini Isah Mairiga expressed the party's unease regarding the situation, noting that while there has been no official confirmation of the defection, the visit to President Tinubu raises concerns. Mairiga emphasized the importance of Hanga and Gaya to the NDC, stating that their departure would be a significant loss.

He acknowledged Hanga's recent complaints about unfair treatment within the party but indicated that party leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was waiting for Hanga to calm down before addressing the issue. Despite the APC's overtures, Mairiga insisted that Hanga and Gaya remain valued members of the NDC.
