NDC Condemns Thug Attack on Meeting in Enugu State

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) condemned a violent disruption of its grassroots meeting in Obuoffia Ward, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State. In a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, OSA Director, Esq., the NDC described the ambush as an unprovoked assault by "state-sponsored thugs" aimed at undermining constitutional rights to peaceful assembly.

The party warned that while it remains committed to democratic principles ahead of the 2027 general elections, its members reserve the right to self-defense if security forces do not intervene. This incident is part of a troubling trend for opposition movements in the South-East, following two previous violent disruptions of consultations held by the party’s senatorial candidate, Uche Onyeogocha, in Imo State.

The NDC attributed the rising hostility in Enugu to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that political opponents are threatened by the NDC's growing grassroots presence. The party called for an immediate investigation into the attack and emphasized that intimidation tactics would not deter its mobilization efforts.
