Enugu Police Investigate Violence Against NDC Members

The Enugu State police command has initiated an investigation into attacks on members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) by unidentified hoodlums during a political gathering in Obuofia, Nkanu West Local Government Area. The police confirmed a separate attack on a Peoples Democratic Party rally at St Joseph Primary School, Agbani, where hoodlums destroyed event materials.

Armed assailants fired sporadically during the NDC event, injuring two attendees. Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa ordered a thorough investigation by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Following the attacks, the NDC released the names of eight members who sustained gunshot injuries, including Onovo Donald Ekene and Ngene Godwin Madueke. The incident occurred during the party's statewide monthly ward meeting, which was attended by NDC governorship candidate Christian Ohaa.

The NDC condemned the violence as a calculated act of political intimidation and petitioned the police and the Department of State Services for immediate action against the perpetrators.
