Governor Uba Sani Urges Politicians to Respect Judiciary

Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State, made a statement on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television, addressing the relationship between politicians and the judiciary in Nigeria. He urged politicians to avoid politicizing judicial matters, stating that such behavior is detrimental to the health of the nation’s democracy.

Sani's remarks were prompted by a recent court judgment involving the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which directed INEC to register the NDC as a political party. He noted that politicians tend to view the judiciary favorably when it rules in their favor, but criticize it when decisions do not align with their interests.

Sani referenced the case of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC, who benefited from a strong judicial pronouncement during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State, illustrating the selective appreciation of judicial outcomes by politicians.
