NDC Ratifies Peter Obi as Presidential Candidate for 2026

The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) ratified Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, as its presidential candidate on May 28, 2026, during nationwide primaries. The party's national chairman, Mose Cleopa, disclosed that logistical disruptions caused by the Eid el-Kabir holiday affected preparations, including flight delays for aspirants traveling to Abuja for screening.

Cleopa warned that no state institution, including security agencies, is authorized to participate in the primaries scheduled for May 29, 2026. He urged party members and aspirants to maintain peace and orderliness throughout the exercise, emphasizing that the party would not tolerate violence or disorderly conduct.

The NDC plans to collate results from the primaries at its national headquarters, with a dedicated committee responsible for announcing the outcomes. The party aims to ensure a smooth electoral process despite the challenges posed by the holiday.
