Peter Obi Plans Fuel Subsidy Funds for Nigerians' Welfare

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, intends to utilize funds saved from the removal of fuel subsidy to enhance the welfare of Nigerians, rather than allocating these resources to state governors. Theo Abu Agada, the NDC's Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, articulated this position amid ongoing discussions about fuel subsidy ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Agada noted that Obi has consistently advocated for the removal of the subsidy and the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector, emphasizing the importance of how the generated resources are managed. He criticized the proposal by African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Atiku Abubakar to restore the subsidy, highlighting Obi's commitment to ensuring that the funds benefit Nigerians directly through projects in healthcare, infrastructure, and education.

Agada also pointed out Atiku's previous support for subsidy removal, questioning his change in stance as the debate intensifies ahead of the upcoming election.
