NDDC Empowers Youth on Community Project Protection

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) conducted a capacity-building program in Owerri, Imo State, aimed at sensitizing youths and stakeholders about community ownership and the protection of NDDC projects. The event featured remarks from Ifedayo Abegund, Executive Director of Corporate Services at NDDC, who highlighted the importance of community engagement in sustaining infrastructure and development initiatives.

Abegund noted that the infrastructure belongs to the community, not just the commission, and emphasized the need for communities to take responsibility for protecting these assets. Barr Patrick Obayelu, the State Director of NDDC, urged communities to safeguard projects against vandalism and misuse.

Ovi Mathia, the project director, stressed the cultural shift needed towards ownership and the importance of monitoring projects to ensure they serve their intended purpose. The NDDC has committed to strengthening partnerships with communities to ensure the sustainability and impact of development projects.
