NDE and CATS to Train One Million Artisans by 2036

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and the Construction Artisans Training School (CATS) recently signed a memorandum of understanding at the NDE headquarters in Abuja to train one million construction artisans by 2036. This initiative aims to address the significant skill deficit in Nigeria's construction sector by providing training for both new entrants and existing artisans seeking to reskill.

Dr. Olayemi Rotimi Shodimu, the project lead, emphasized that the training will be conducted nationwide at NDE training centers, fully funded by CATS. The program is designed to equip youth with the skills demanded in the construction industry, enhancing their employment and entrepreneurial prospects.

Sila Agara, the director general of NDE, highlighted the partnership's potential to create direct and indirect job opportunities, reduce drug addiction, and mitigate insecurity among Nigerian youth. The initiative is expected to significantly impact the country's economic growth by empowering youth with requisite skills to reduce unemployment.
