Court Adjourns KC Luxury’s Detention Case to 2026

The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned the case of detained businessman and social media influencer Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, until September 21, 2026. Justice Friday Ogazi set this date to allow parties to await a ruling from a sister court on an application challenging the court's jurisdiction to hear the matter.

KC Luxury's lawyer, Abdulakeem Labi-Lawal, SAN, argued that while the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) secured a 30-day custody order for further investigation, it did not mandate full detention for that period. He contended that Kazeem could be released on bail if the NDLEA was satisfied with the investigation's progress.

The defence is challenging an August 20, 2026 ex parte order that authorized the NDLEA to detain Kazeem while investigating drug trafficking allegations. They argue that the court's jurisdiction to try offences under the NDLEA Act differs from its authority to issue a pre-charge remand order, emphasizing that the initial remand should not exceed 14 days as per the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015.
