NDLEA Seizes N1.5 Trillion in Drug Trafficking Fight

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported a major breakthrough in its fight against illicit drug trafficking, revealing that it seized drugs valued at N1.5 trillion and arrested 29,262 suspects over the past 18 months. This disclosure was made by the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig Gen Buba Marwa (Retd), during a grand final event marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Abuja.

The agency has intensified intelligence-led operations, dismantling significant drug trafficking networks, including the notorious Amadi Simon drug cartel and a large methamphetamine laboratory in Oyo State. In total, 5,225 offenders were convicted, and 6,645 awareness campaigns reached nearly five million Nigerians.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi reaffirmed the government's commitment to tackling substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking. The NDLEA's efforts have been recognized as a significant step towards curbing drug abuse in Nigeria.
