NDLEA Seizes 748kg of Tramadol on Benin-Lagos Road

On April 23, 2026, the Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a significant drug shipment on the Benin-Lagos expressway. The operation, led by Mitchel Ofoyeju, resulted in the seizure of 748.02 kg of controlled substances, including 440,000 capsules of tramadol (100 mg), 600,000 capsules of tramadol (50 mg), 84,000 tablets of rohypnol, and 76,000 ampoules of diazepam.

The drugs were found in a Mercedes Benz truck bearing the insignia of the Nigeria Labour Congress, registered as NLC 146 FC. Two suspects, Osagi Igbinibo (43) and Omiji Malik (44), were arrested in connection with the seizure.

The NDLEA expressed concern over the potential impact of such drug shipments on communities, particularly regarding the threat posed by potent opioids like tramadol. The agency remains vigilant in its mission to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking, with ongoing investigations into the suspects, who will be charged in court soon.
