NDLEA Intercepts Major Drug Shipments at Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted two significant drug shipments at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, destined for Italy. On March 18, 2026, Fridai Ehianuka, 37, was arrested while attempting to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Rome with 2,698 pills of tramadol concealed in skin lightening cream.

He had reportedly paid a fee in euros to facilitate the trafficking. Another suspect, Christian Agbonhes, 38, was apprehended on the same day with 23,150 pills of tramadol and 4,000 tablets of tapentadol hidden in large winter jackets while trying to board a Lufthansa flight to Milan.

The total recovery from both operations amounted to 28,470 pills of opioids. Additionally, the NDLEA conducted further operations leading to the seizure of cannabis and methamphetamine in various locations, resulting in multiple arrests of individuals involved in drug trafficking across Nigeria.
