The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a large cannabis shipment valued at N10.43 billion at Tincan Island Port, Lagos. The shipment, weighing 4,173.5 kilograms, consisted of a high-potency strain known as "Canadian Loud." It was tracked for two months following intelligence gathering and surveillance, originating from Toronto, Canada.
The shipment was transferred from a vessel named Jakarta Express, which arrived at Tanger Med Port in Morocco on April 15, before being moved to Lagos on May 9. The operation was a collaborative effort involving the NDLEA, Nigeria Customs Service, and international partners, including the UK Home Office, US Drug Enforcement Administration, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The drugs were concealed inside a Ford Mercedes Benz C300 car within the shipment. The seizure occurred on May 12 during a joint examination involving NDLEA and Customs officials.
NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd) commended the agencies involved for their professionalism and vigilance in combating drug trafficking.
