NDLEA Celebrates Court's N33.6bn Opioid Forfeiture Ruling

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) commended a recent court judgment that granted an interim forfeiture order for illicit opioids valued at N33.6 billion. This ruling was issued by the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt on September 17.

NDLEA's Director of Media Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, reported that the forfeited drugs were seized during operations at the Port Harcourt port complex.

NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Buba Marwa described the forfeiture as a significant blow to financial resources of criminal syndicates involved in drug trafficking. He stated that the action sends a clear message that Nigeria will not tolerate the funding of criminal activities.

Marwa also acknowledged the role of the judiciary in supporting the fight against substance abuse and drug trafficking, highlighting the importance of collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigeria Customs Service. The agency remains committed to dismantling drug networks across the country.
