NDLEA Secures N33.6bn Forfeiture of Illicit Opioids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully obtained an interim forfeiture order for illicit opioids valued at N33.6 billion in Rivers State. This order was granted by Justice Adamu Turaki Moham of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt on February 10, 2026, following an ex parte motion filed by the NDLEA.

The agency's spokesman, Femi Babafemi, reported that the forfeiture pertains to 17 containers intercepted at the Port Complex in Rivers State, containing a total of 365,657 kilograms of various psychotropic substances, including 19.6 million pills of tramadol, tafrodol, tapentadol, and carisoprodol, as well as 2,496,400 bottles of codeine syrup. NDLEA Chairman Mohan Buba Marwa described the forfeiture as a significant blow to drug trafficking networks and emphasized the agency's commitment to dismantling drug cartels in Nigeria.

He commended the judiciary for its support and acknowledged the role of the Nigeria Customs Service in the successful interception.
