NDLEA and NCC Collaborate to Combat Drug Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Friday at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja. This agreement aims to strengthen collaboration in combating drug trafficking and copyright piracy, which are often linked to organized crime in Nigeria.

Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd), the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, stated that the partnership reflects the growing connection between drug trafficking and copyright piracy, emphasizing that criminal syndicates frequently operate across multiple illicit enterprises. The MoU institutionalizes intelligence exchange, joint operations, and regular meetings through a joint work committee to ensure effective implementation of collaborative efforts.

Dr. John Asein, Director General of the NCC, described the alliance as a major milestone in inter-agency collaboration, noting that copyright piracy is a highly organized criminal enterprise often linked to narcotics trafficking, money laundering, smuggling, and cybercrime.
