NDLEA and NACOC Forge Pact Against Drug Trafficking

On May 5, 2026, Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), renewed a partnership with Ghana's Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to combat drug cartels operating across West Africa. During a visit from a Ghanaian delegation led by Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantei, Marwa emphasized the necessity of collaboration to confront illicit drug trafficking and money laundering, which are forms of transnational organized crime threatening regional peace and stability.

The two agencies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to provide a legal framework for deeper cooperation, focusing on the fight against illicit drugs, precursor chemicals, and related money laundering activities. Marwa noted that the evolving nature of drug trafficking requires stronger regional cooperation.

Mantei praised Nigeria's leadership role in West Africa, describing it as an "elder brother" in the region. The agreement aims to enhance operational training and intelligence sharing between the two agencies.
