NDLEA and US DEA Strengthen Alliance Against Drug Cartels

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) of Nigeria and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (US DEA) have deepened their alliance to combat narco-terrorism and target drug cartels. This partnership was reinforced during a high-level bilateral counter-narcotics workshop held at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja.

The workshop brought together top law enforcement officials from Nigeria and the United States to align strategies against the evolving drug threat. NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Moham Buba Marwa, highlighted the urgent need for coordinated international action to address the increasingly complex global drug network.

He warned of the growing nexus between illicit drug trafficking and terrorism, noting that the drug trade is a major source of funding for extremist groups. Marwa emphasized Nigeria's strategic geographic position, making it a prime target for international drug cartels, particularly as operations shift from Latin America to Africa.

The workshop concluded with a joint declaration outlining shared priorities and a 12-month action plan to guide operational efforts.
